What We Do / Our Mission

Our mission is simple: to keep you informed with accurate, timely, and deeply contextual news from every corner of Africa. We believe that understanding Africa’s dynamic present requires more than headlines — it demands insight, balance, and a commitment to truth. That’s why we go beyond the surface to deliver stories that inform, inspire, and connect.

Topics We Cover

We cover the full spectrum of news shaping Africa today:

  • Politics and governance
  • Business and economic trends
  • Technology and innovation
  • Public health and social development
  • Environmental challenges and sustainability
  • Culture, arts, and community voices

From policy shifts in Nairobi to tech startups in Lagos, from water security in the Sahel to healthcare reforms in Johannesburg — we bring you the full picture.

About the Creator/Team

African Waters Daily was founded by Caspian Yardley, a journalist and researcher based at the University of Cape Town. With years of experience covering African affairs, Caspian saw a need for a platform that didn’t just report on Africa, but truly understood it — one that prioritized depth over speed, and context over clickbait. What began as a personal project has grown into a daily resource for readers who refuse to settle for superficial narratives.

Why This Website Exists

The world often speaks about Africa — but rarely with Africa. Too many stories are filtered through external lenses, missing the nuance, diversity, and agency of African voices. African Waters Daily was born out of a desire to change that. We exist to amplify African perspectives, spotlight underreported issues, and provide a space where the continent’s complexity is honored, not simplified.

Our Values/Approach

Our work is guided by three core principles:

  • Accuracy — Every story is fact-checked and sourced responsibly.
  • Context — We don’t just report events; we explain their roots and consequences.
  • Respect — We center African voices and avoid sensationalism or stereotyping.

We don’t chase trends. We follow threads — connecting dots across borders, sectors, and communities to help you understand not just what’s happening, but why it matters.
